Budget impact analysis of a digital monitoring platform for COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive debilitating condition with frequent exacerbations that have a high burden for patients and society. Digital tools may help to reduce the economic burden for patients and payers by improving outcomes.

What are economic costs and when should they be used in health economic studies?

The authors outline the principles behind economic costs and when and why they should be used within health economic analyses. They highlight that the difference between financial and economic costs and what adjustments are needed within cost calculations will be influenced by the context of the study, the perspective, and the objective.

Mihajlo Jakovljevic, Editor-in-Chief

Mihajlo Jakovljevic M.D. Ph.D. MAE is a health economist who published ~300 papers in refereed journals. His expertise focuses on Emerging Markets and Health Financing sustainability across LMICs countries and the Global South. Over the past twenty years he has delivered plenary lectures and solicited speeches in thirty countries across Eurasia. Affiliated to University of Kragujevac he serves as a WHO EACHR Committee member in an advisory capacity to the Cabinet of WHO Regional Director for Europe, based in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2021 he became first-ever Elected Ordinary Academician coming from Serbia, at the UNESCO World Academy of Sciences TWAS with its headquarters in Trieste, Italy. In 2022 he was elected to Full Membership within Academia Europaea, London, UK.
